Update on Arrest of Former Employee

Dear Pinecrest Families and Employees,
On February 3, 2010, we provided an update regarding the arrest of Jason Caplan on February 1, 2010.
The District Attorney appeared today in the Ventura County Superior Court and filed a one count criminal complaint alleging felony possession of child pornography pursuant to California Penal Code Section 311.11 (a). A further Early Disposition Conference involving the Court, Caplan's Public Defender and the District Attorney is scheduled for March 22, 2010.
Pinecrest teaches the "Smart and Safe Program" to students in all grades, This program is led by former Deputy Sheriff Jodie King. She will continue to provide information to the school community through various education assemblies which are scheduled in March.
Additional communication channels, such as an email blast to parents, will be implemented soon.

To All Parents:
Below is the most current information on our former employee’s arrest.
We are in contact with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and the Districts’ Attorney’s Office in Ventura County. We have conducted an internal investigation. At this point in time, there is no known complaint, information, or basis to suspect that Jason Caplan was inappropriately involved with Pinecrest School children. The Sheriff’s Department has advised us that it has concluded that at present it does not have any basis for investigation at Pinecrest Schools.
Jason Caplan is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court at which time the District Attorney’s Office will advise whether it intends to file a criminal complaint against Caplan.
