KINDERGARTEN BOOK LOGS (PDF)
The Kindergarten Reader Program at Pinecrest was initiated in order to encourage and foster a love of reading among our Kindergarten children, to encourage additional oral reading practice leading to greater skill and independence in reading and, of course, to involve family members in this wonderful voyage of discovery.
How does one become a Kindergarten Reader? It's really quite simple! Just jot down the titles of books that your child has read to a parent on the attached Kindergarten Book Log. When the log is complete (ten books), sign the form and send it into your child's teacher. The teacher will send another Book Log home for your use, and so on. Children must read at least ten books to qualify as a Kindergarten Reader. However, your child may read as many books as he/she wishes. The sky is the limit! We are indeed fortunate, here in Thousand Oaks, to have a truly excellent Public Library. If you are not a resident of Thousand Oaks, please come into the Office and we will give you a waiver stating that your child goes to our school, so that you too can access this excellent source.
Please understand that the books which you choose should be easy reading for your child, requiring little or no adult assistance. Many books, like the BOB books, for example, are perfect for this activity and each book in a set counts as one. As well, there may be times when your child brings home a book that has been made in class. Have your child read it to you and it can be included on their log. All completed Kindergarten Book Logs are to be handed into the teacher.
All parents will receive notice of the special assemblies which will honor their Kindergarten Readers. We are looking forward, with you, to this special accomplishment in your child's life! Please contact the school with any questions that you may have. HAPPY READING! |
