After the Chumash Indians, George Clemson was one of the
first owners of the property at Oxnard Street and Shoup Avenue. In the
early 1900s he had a huge apricot orchard that was subjected to a series
of rainstorms that flooded the Valley.
In the 1930s, the parcel was owned by racketeer Willie Bioff.
He built a concrete house that was a virtual fortress.
By the 1940s the Hertz family, of rental car fame, bought
the acreage and transformed it into a thriving ranch where they raised
thoroughbreds.
Their horses were Kentucky Derby winners. And these Derby winners are
even rumored to be buried somewhere on the property!
Ultimately, in 1948, Edna Mae Dye purchased the property and
it became the campus of one of the Valley's most prominent private schools
-- Pinecrest Woodland Hills.
A Founder's Dream Realized
Little did Edna Mae Dye know when she founded Pinecrest Schools
in 1951, that she would impact the future of thousands -- rather
than dozens -- of young people who would impact the world in years
to come. What began as a dream, has become a symbol of academic excellence
in Southern California. Mrs. Dye believed that the hunger for knowledge
must be nurtured and that private school education should be superb
and within the reach of families seeking the best for their children. |

A Family Environment Offering Safety & Security
Educators at Pinecrest Woodland Hills reflect the long-term
commitment they have to students. The majority of the faculty have been
teaching at Pinecrest for more than a decade. This commitment and concern
for students is also evident in the family environment that can be felt
throughout the entire campus. The care and concern of instructors is
fortified in the protective layout of the grounds. These features provide
students a fun and safe environment in which to learn and play.
Tradition Meets Today
The Director of Pinecrest Woodland Hills, Betty Monello, has
established an accelerated and unique learning environment. Her devotion
to students and their families is just one of the many features that
makes Pinecrest Woodland Hills unique. Mrs. Monello understands the myriad
needs of parents who work in the nearby business community. Pinecrest's
mission is to provide superb private education that is affordable and
meets parental needs. Tuition includes child care from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30
