The road to success does not end with graduation from Pinecrest and it's not too early to start thinking and planning for high school and even college. With this goal in mind, we have put together resources for our students to help ease the transition from middle school to high school.

We will continue to post important information about high school events and resources, so check back on this page frequently.

High School Recommendations

All High School recommendations need to be handed to Mrs. Nilsen, who will distribute them to the appropriate teachers. Copies will be made of the recommendations, and then they will be mailed directly to the schools.

Schools away from the student's home attendance area:

There are several options:

  • Magnet schools: Applications are typically mailed to the homes of district students in December, but parents may obtain the Choices brochure containing instructions, the application and list of schools by mid-December at the local neighborhood schools and Los Angeles County public Libraries. Applications are also available each December by calling the Office of Student Integration Services at (213) 241-4177.
  • Resident applicants not enrolled in LAUSD need to do the following: Obtain the brochure from the resident school, refer to page 3, and follow instructions which are as follows: Contact the school of attendance to give authorization to release the information; Contact the Gifted/Talented Programs office at (213) 241-6500 to request a student verification form be sent to the current school of attendance; Make sure that the verification form is returned from the school of attendance prior to the deadline.
  • LAUSD students: Receive the brochure by mail and are automatically verified through school records. Parents should refer to page 3 for proper criteria.
  • Open Enrollment: Allows parents to apply for designated 'open enrollment' seats at specified campuses. The application process typically occurs during May for the following school year. A list of the schools with open enrollment seats is usually available in the main office of any school, beginning in late April or early May. For more information, parents can call (213) 241-6414.
  • Out-of-District: Parents may apply for an out of district permit to attend a school that is not LAUSD (Los Angeles Unified School District). For further information parents can call the Permits and Student Transfers Office at (213) 745-1960.
  • Charter Schools: For more information, parents can contact the LAUSD at (213) 241-4625 or go to http://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/fa/cs/

HSPT is the high school entrance exam for the Catholic High schools. The exam needs to be taken at the school of choice. If students do not get into their first choice, most schools will take their exam scores from that school and apply it to their admissions process.

Dates for the HSPT will follow soon:

The ISEE high school entrance exam is for all other private schools and is usually in December or January.

If parents want to register for the ISEE exam online or need more information, follow this link on the web page: http://www.erbtest.org/
